Excell Bay of Plenty’s Open Space Management team
is looking forward to being able to trim the region’s roadside grass
verges in half the time with a new state of the art mowing unit.
The New Holland TS135A dual mower is considered to be the first of its kind in New Zealand, and the largest of four mowing units used for Excell’s Bay Road contract with Transit New Zealand and the Western Bay of Plenty District Council.
It has a reach mower on an extendable arm at the
rear and a regular mower at the front. The new machine is calculated
to mow the equivalent of 30,000 kilometres of roadside over the coming
five years.
As well as being capable of doing the work of two
standard mowing units the New Holland helps with traffic management and
reduces road congestion but its wide cutting surface means there are
many situations were it will replace the need for two mowers. Its
wider cutting width is 2.4m, versus a standard 1.6m – 1.8m single cut.
Excell Bay of Plenty’s OSM
Manager Malcolm Smith says, “We are delighted to have this
state-of-the-art New Holland in our fleet.” The purchase of the new
mower followed the successful trial of two dual mower units just over
two years ago.
